What do you need to know before treatment:
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic literally means: "Done by Hand" and is an alternative approach to treating pain. Chiropractors focus on locating and treating the origin and the cause of the pain or disorder, rather than just treating the symptoms. Chiropractic is non-invasive and is therefore safe and effective, so anyone of any age can benefit from it, including babies.
How does Chiropractic work?
A Chiropractor's main concern is your spine and the nervous system. There are 24 individual mobile vertebrae that starts at the base of your skull and ends between the hips. There are 7 neck (cervical), 12 mid back (thoracic) and 5 lower back (lumbar) vertebrae. In between all these vertebrae are a cartilaginous disc that functions as a shock absorb-er.
A pair of spinal nerves exits between each vertebrae. Each one of the 31 pairs of nerves comes from the spinal cord, which runs the length of the spine, and extends outward to form a complex network which ultimately supplies and influences every organ, tissue and cell in the body.
As a Chiropractor we evaluate the biomechanical structure of the spine to ensure each vertebra are moving freely and are not displaced or fixed in anyway. any such displacement or jammed vertebra can cause the spinal nerve that exits from intervertebral foramen (opening), to become irritated either through direct pressure or through indirect irritation.
It is a Chiropractor's task to evaluate and identify any problem that might exits within the spine and to correct any dysfunction that might be present.
When should I see my Chiropractor?
Chiropractic care has been to known to treat and help almost any condition that is nerve, muscle or joint related. Conditions can range from neck pain, headaches, whiplash, shoulder pain, arm and elbow pain, tingling in arms and hands, all the way to back, hip, leg, knee, even foot pain. Therefore any joint condition can be potentially be helped through chiropractic care.
