In the next blog series we will be looking at the muscles causing back pain. Muscles can be a major causing factor in back pain, that is why we will be looking at the different muscles causing back pain in the next couple of weeks.

The following muscles will be discussed:

  • Trapezius
  • Rhomboid major and minor
  • Quadratus Lumborum
  • Erector Spinae group

We will be discussion in depth the anatomy and working of these muscles so that you have a better understanding of each muscles. The following terms will be used in the next lot of articles:

·        Caudad

o   Away from the head

·        Cephalad

o   Towards the head

·        Distal

o   Farther away from the trunk or point of origin

·        Extension

o   Straightening of a hinge joint, like elbow

·        Flexion

o   Bending of a hinge joint

·        Lateral

o   Farther from the midline

·        Proximal

 

o   Closer to the trunk
